Saskatoon, SK Canada! April 28, 2008
Hello from the North!!
What a shock after being in very warm San Antonio and fairly warm Orange County, CA! I drove for just over two days through 5 states and a blizzard in Canada! The first week has been pretty cold, snowy, rainy and a bit dreary, but yesterday and today have been clear and it's warming up! The Opening night party was great and held within my hotel so that was easy for me, there was plenty to eat and drink and fun was had by all...
The audiences have not been as responsive as most in the states ( especially those in TX and CA which were so great!). Honestly it does make it a bit of a tougher show when you don't get that. It's already a tough one for most of us, so we count on that energy from the audience. Perhaps these folks aren't used to lots of shows coming through or some think they are seeing an opera and also think they should not laugh or respond. That's not true for an opera either, if it's funny laugh! That's how we know we're doing our job! And at the curtain call, believe me, we NEED that applause and vocal responses are encouraged as well. OK, that's enough of that! Actually the folks I've met at the party, the local crew, folks at the YMCA and around town are very friendly and welcoming.
We've been hanging out at a fun pub called "Winston's" and hopefully I'll get to check out the Irish Pub, O'Shea's. Today I walked around quite a bit, to the river and shopping a bit on 2nd Ave, just trying to relax and bit since it's been a rough week of travel and performing with new crew/dressers etc. Last night the Chandelier was still on stage for my entrance so it blocked my whole big entrance...upstaged by that darn chandelier---first time as Carlotta, there were a few times it malfunctioned when I was Christine and it was supposed to fall...
Hopefully the rest of the time we're here we'll get nice weather and relaxed audiences!
Cheers! Saskatoon!
